While writing Prairie Girls, I stumbled upon an intriguing answer to the question: when was one of the first women’s ice hockey teams in Manitoba? My jaw hit the desk when my research revealed the Brandon Ladies’ Champion Ice Hockey Team in 1899, playing with long skirts and wooden sticks.
